Republica vs Homophobia 2019

This February, Republica was proud to join grassroots clubs across the country in supporting the Football vs Homophobia campaign. Our women’s team dedicated their West Riding County Womens Football League fixture against Thackley AFC to the campaign, whilst the mens section joined in the action in their first friendly since the end of their competitive season.

As well as supporting the FvH campaign in general, we also wanted to use the opportunity to raise awareness about local initiatives supporting LGBTQI+ people in Yorkshire. We’ve been selling our ‘Republica vs Homophobia’ T-shirts to raise money for African Rainbow Family, an ace organisation that supports LGBTQI+ people seeking refugee protection in the UK.

We’ve still got t-shirts for sale (and are also planning to make more), so drop us a message if you’d like to place an order!

Republica has always been a club that stands against homophobia and other forms of discrimination, both on and off the pitch. Not only is it in our constitution, but it’s part of what makes us who we are. Football should be for everyone.

So, in summary, love who you love, be who you are and always look after your mates (Yorkshire St Pauli can take credit for that final mantra).
