Did You Know?
The Republica Women are part of the English Football pyramid and have played some tough opponents over the years. The most infamous of these was back in 2002, when a solid run in the County Cup saw Republica Leeds United in the quarter final. United, preparing for an FA Cup fourth round tie two weeks later, pulled no punches and fielded a full-strength team for the encounter. Thanks to Irish internationals Michelle Walsh and Caroline Thorpe, as well as Leeds and England legend Sue Smith, the result was a whopping 26-0 to the then-Premier League side. Ouch!
Republica have faced Leeds a number of times since then, each time recording an improved scoreline. With the most recent a 7-0 defeat to Leeds' reserves, surely it's only a matter of time before we see the mother of all upsets?
